  3. dIndex Pro Shareware version.
  4.  
  5. This Shareware version provides all the facilities of dIndex, with the 
  6. exception that files may not be saved. The full version is available,
  7. complete with an instruction manual, and may be obtained by registering
  8. as detailed in the nag screen.
  9.  
  10. Please note that the colour control and barcode creation and printing
  11. facilities of this version are derived from the Professional Edition
  12. of dIndex, and are NOT present in the Standard Edition
  13.  
  14. For details of how to order the full version see the file ORDER.TXT on the 
  15. distribution disk.

  27. The dLSoft Install program will install dIndex into a user specified subdirectory. 
  28.  
  29. Run the INSTALL program on this disk from within Windows. When using 
  30. Pogram Manager, insert this disk in your drive (A: or B:), select RUN from 
  31. the FILE menu, and type A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL) and click on OK. 
  32. INSTALL will prompt you for an installation directory name.  During 
  33. installation a library file name "COMMDLG.DLL" is copied into the 
  34. installation directory. If your system already contains a more recent copy 
  35. of this file on the Windows path, the version which comes with dIndex may 
  36. be deleted from the installation directory.

  40. Background dialog
  41.  
  42. The background colour and page boundary colour used by dIndex may be set 
  43. from the SET BACKGROUND option of the DISPLAY menu.

  47. Form/Label dialog
  48.  
  49. The Form/Label sizes dialog has a new procedure for changing the definition
  50. of a form/label size:
  51. 1) Select the name of the form/label which it is desired to change from the 
  52. list in the forms/labels listbox on the left of the dialog.
  53. 2) Make the required changed to the name, sizes and repeat numbers.
  54. 3) Push the Accept changes button when you are satisfied with the new 
  55. definitions.
  56. 4) If you wish to make the changes permanent, check the Save on OK box.
  57. 5) Push the OK button.

  61. Import dialog
  62.  
  63. The Import dialog has been modified by the addition of a check box which, 
  64. if checked, results in the removal of quotation marks (") from imported data. 
  65. This has been provided to allow for the easier import of some types of comma 
  66. delimited files.

  70. Print dialog
  71.  
  72. The PRINT dialog has been simplified, by the movement of a number of the 
  73. less commonly used options to a second dialog box called the PRINT 
  74. OPTIONS DIALOG. This dialog is also the one summoned when PRINTER 
  75. SETUP is chosen from the FILE menu.

  79. Replacement dates
  80.  
  81. The Replacement date (the date which replaces the ^ symbol) may now be 
  82. specified, although it continues to default to the current date. The date format
  83.  is now the format set within the Windows Control Panel.

  88. Page view
  89.  
  90. The Page View option now displays the white form(s) background at the size 
  91. specified in the forms/label dialog. The superimposed black rectangle shows
  92. the prinable area of the page reported by the Windows printer driver. The 
  93. position of this rectangle will be determined by the current margin and paper 
  94. feed settings of the Print Options dialog. Note that some laser printers in 
  95. landscape mode print the page justified to the righthand margin rather than 
  96. the normal lefthand margin, and that this is significant if the physical pages 
  97. fed to the printer are smaller than the size specified in the printersetup dialog.

  101. Command line startup
  102.  
  103. dIndex may be started from a command line which may include any or all of the 
  104. following parameters in any order:
  105.  
  106. [path]dIndex.exe [path]filename.dlx [path]stylename.dls /p
  107.  
  108. where the filename and/or stylename are the names of files which will be 
  109. loaded automatically on startup, and /p indicates that form/labels for the 
  110. entire database will be printed immediately.
  111.  
  112. This latter facility has been incoporated to allow automatic unattended 
  113. printing following startup. It is the user's responsibilty to ensure that the 
  114. printer setup is correct in the chosen style, that the printer is available, and 
  115. (if a printer spooler is used) that the system contains sufficient disk space to 
  116. handle the volume of printing.

  120. Sample styles
  121.  
  122. The sample styles are supplied with non-TrueType font settings for 
  123. compatability with Windows 3.0. If you are currently using Windows 3.1 
  124. with TrueType enabled you may wish to change these settings to a suitable 
  125. TrueType font for improved screen display.

  129. Graphics elements
  130.  
  131. A picture element may contain a graphics image which may be pasted from the
  132. clipboard (using PASTE PICTURE) or imported from a file in .CLP, .BMP, .DIB,
  133. .PCX, .WMF or .TIF format (using EDIT SELECTION).

  138. Version 2.2  additional details                                       
  139.  
  140. dIndex now allows any field other than the index field to display graphics images.
  141. The images may be stored in files in the database directory, using .CLP, .BMP, .DIB,
  142. .PCX, .WMF or .TIF formats. Each image file may be selected by pushing the IMAGE 
  143. button in the field block editor. See the HELP system for details.

  145. Note that only standard (public) TIF format records may be imported. Private
  146. record formats defined by some manufacturers for their own purposes will not
  147. be interpretted by dIndex.
  148.  
  149. dIndex now allows each Field to have its own font. The Field font option 
  150. now sets the font for fields which do not have their own font assigned 
  151. through the Selection font option.
  152.  
  153. Fields may start with the Replacement date character and may be followed 
  154. by an added number of days to advance the date (eg. ^+7). This facility 
  155. allows labels with"Sell by" or "Best before" dates to be created readily.
  156.  
  157. dIndex now displays by default in Printer View rather than Normal View 
  158. as described in the manual. If you are planning to follow the tutorial 
  159. introduction you may wish to set dIndex into normal view as soon as 
  160. you start the program. This may be achieved by clicking on the NORMAL 
  161. item of the DISPLAY menu.

  163. In response to user requests, the Index field may now be hidden (ie non-printing). 
  164. To implement this the EDIT SELECTION menuitem of the EDIT menu has 
  165. been split intotwo items: EDIT SELECTION and FORMAT SELECTION. 
  166. EDIT SELECTION summons the appropriate editor for editing the content of a 
  167. selected block, while FORMAT SELECTION summons a formatting editor for 
  168. fields, allowing the field text to be centred, left or right aligned, wordwrapped 
  169. or hidden. See the HELP system for details.

  171. Professional version:
  172.  
  173. Barcodes may now be created from the Index field as well as from any other 
  174. field.The Barcode dialog field selection combo box now includes an entry 
  175. "First", indicating that the first field of the record (the Index field) may be 
  176. used asthe barcode source.
